Sketches
I love good sketch comedy. Most people will instantly think of Saturday Night Live when the phrase sketch comedy comes up. Some might think of Mad TV or some of the more popular cable based programs such as Chappelle’s Show, Kids in the Hall, or the Upright Citizens Brigade. What alot of people might not know of is the insanely talented troupes and invdividuals that are out there on the internet. When you stop and think about it the internet is truly the best medium to date for sketch comedy and up-and-coming comedians in general. Anyone with a couple bucks can host their own comedy site. What’s much more popular is starting your own MySpace page or YouTube account and uploading your clips there. Needless to say there is some seriously funny sketch comedy out on the net.
Whitest Kids You Know
The Whitest Kids you know actually have their own show now on the cable channel Fuse. They have their own site which is hosted by Fuse and the majority of their stuff can be found on YouTube. Lots of funny sketches by these guys

Picnicface
These guys broke onto the scene with a clip called Powerthirst. The clip went viral receiving a few million hits fairly quickly on YouTube and gave them some steam to build on. Their website is the best place to find all their clips and it would appear they’re also associated with collegehumor.com

Jon LaJoie
Funniest guy on YouTube. Also featured on funnyordie.com. Not really a sketch comedy troupe persay, as he’s the only one in any of the sketches, but he obviously works with a crew of individuals to get his stuff out there; him being the funny one. Check out his YouTube page and just watch ‘em all.

Derrick Comedy
A pretty funny troupe out of the New York area. I really like the clip linked below and it leads itself to all kinds of inside jokes amongst those who have seen it. There other stuff is hit and miss but definitely some good stuff in there.

The Lonely Island
These guys are really only here for historical reference. You’ll probably recognize Andy Samburg from Saturday Night Live to which he is now employed, or possibly from the movie Hot Rod. The other 2 main guys from the group were hired on as writers for SNL and Akiva does alot of music video directing. They were indeed the funniest dudes on the net a few years ago and their old stuff is still worth checking out as anything new they do is now owned by NBC. They’ve been responsible for just about anything funny to come out of SNL in the past 2 years.

Channel101.com
Channel101 is a site where folks in LA can submit a pilot video for a short series. The pilot’s are all played in a theatre in LA where the audience votes on their favorites. The top several pilots with the most audience votes get voted in and the creators are allowed to make another episode in the series. Subsequent episodes are aired at the monthly showing and if the series continues to receive votes the creators can continue to make more episodes to be featured on the website. There’s tons of funny on this site. The Lonely Island guys mentioned above, and their series The Bu’ which is also linked, was a long running show on Channel101. There’s a more recent one about AC Slater that’s hilarious as well. Check it out.

Go to Google and search for “miserable failure“.
Awesome. I love the Internet.
See this page for an explanation.
UPDATE: Google “fixed” it. It used to pull the presidents bio on whitehouse.gov as the top hit. Link.

time online
I wanted to a take a moment and discuss some of my favorite websites that are out there. I love the internet. From it’s ability to freely share information and connect people and ideas from around the globe, truly bringing us closer to a unfied global society, to also housing some of the strangest, even disturbing, content found anywhere. It’s got it all…
Fazed.org has got to be my favorite site on the Internet. It’s the best content site on the planet in my opinion. It’s layout is similar to other “link” sites out there, like fark.com and others. What set’s Fazed far apart from the others is it’s simple layout that isn’t cluttered with ads and it’s community. After viewing a link or posting on the front page you can actually read the comments without be bombarded by 14 year old flame wars and childish ramblings. The users often offer insightful comments with follow-up posts and information… albeit this is still the internet we’re talking about here and you’ll always have that edge of disdain, sarcasm, and wit.
It’s a content site, but unlike fark who mostly has articles they mainly focus on videos, images, games, and noteworthy news items. Their forum, aka the “Slorum”, is also one of the best around, so head over that way for enlightened (or not so enlightened) discussion on just about everything. I post under the nickname blam so look for me there.
Woot.com has the most genius marketing srategy ever comprised. They sell 1 product a day, launched at midnight CST, for typically well below market value and it’s always $5 shipping, no matter what. They’ll sell the product until they run out of stock or it hits midnight CST of that day at which point they launch the next days product. Depending on the cost/popularity of the item things can sell out very quickly. Then there’s the woot-offs. Man I love woot-offs. This is where they’ll sell a product until they run out of stock and they’ll immediately launch the next product. Some stuff will sell thousands of items in minutes and be gone and some stuff will linger a few hours. You can tell it’s a woot-off if there’s flashing orange sirens and a progress bar on the main page below the item. During these events I can be found staring at woot hitting the F5 key to constantly refresh the page anticipating the next item.
There’s plenty of other sites that are worthy out there, but the above 2 are the only ones I’d say I visit daily. Google has a plethera of other services, tools, and toys on their site that alot of people might not know about; me, I’m a google whore. Check their more section for all kinds of goodies. Check my links section on the right for some other gems.
